Evaluation
The Maine Innovation Economy Advisory Board, established by the Legislature, serves as the R&D planning arm for the state and the EPSCoR Coordinating Committee. MIEAB coordinates the State's research and development (R&D) activities and fosters collaboration among its higher educational and nonprofit research institutions and the business community. Its duties are:
- Assisting State and federal policymakers advance R&D capacity initiatives in Maine and developing corresponding funding strategies;
- Providing input on economic planning and the commercial application of the State's R&D efforts;
- Facilitating research opportunities that create sustained, inter-institutional, multidisciplinary centers-based research projects;
- Advocating for the State's R&D sector and interests;
- Disseminating information about the Council's work throughout the State to interested parties and the general public;
- Interacting with the State Science Director and assisting the Director in performing her duties, which include preparation of a biannual report to the Governor detailing strategies and initiatives for the advancement of scientific and technological development in the State of Maine;
- Serving as the EPSCoR Committee for the State of Maine, including evaluating proposals made to the EPSCoR and related Programs.
The Council consists of 30 members, appointed by the Governor, from a broad cross section of industry and technology sectors representing the breadth of research and development activities from basic research to commercialization of new products and services. The Council meets quarterly and is responsible, in conjunction with the Office of Innovation, for the development and implementation of the State
Science and Technology Action Plan.
